She is the daughter of CB’s Amy, who is the daughter of my first game dog, Toks, and Laika, an imported Mayday/Boyles female from Southern Kennels, owned by RX Kennels. Her sire is Butcher Boy, who is out of Ch. Recoil Buck, an imported Gaston blood, and GR. CH. Vodka.

When I saw Bekkie’s pedigree, I was immediately interested in acquiring her. I managed to speak to Smalltimes, but he wasn’t interested in selling or lending her for hunting or breeding. I was disappointed, but she was his dog and I had to respect his decision. Two weeks later, however, he called me to say that he would send her to me alongside a Hulk dog from Golden Gates who had been sold to Dogman Kennels. I was thrilled. The day finally came, I picked her up and gave her a quick tour of the yard. She was very confident and showed dominance, even though it was her first time walking with me. She had been properly schooled, and Smalltimes had told me that she was the real deal.

News of her prowess had spread like wildfire, and he had been unable to find a local opponent who wanted to take her on. On this side, she was unknown. I signed her up for a convention that was going to take place a few hundred miles from home. She was going for first, Polvora was going for second, and Samora was going for second. It was a difficult time: Samora and Bekkies fell ill in the second week, to this day, I still don’t know what happened. I had to pay the forfeit. Samora also got a forfeit from the other camp, and Polvora was the only one who travelled and won against Cobra 2XW, a heavy-mouthed Tex-Mex female. I was planning to travel again, and I was going to take the same team of dogs with me. However, I was challenged locally, and they claimed to have something special for her. Now, only Samora was going to travel for the second time, and Polvora was going to travel for the third time.

Jamanta was advertised as a heavy-mouthed female who would quickly go for the front end and finish things off. That didn’t intimidate us; we were ready for anything. Bekkies was a bit too dry, but she came in at exactly 15.2 kg and Jamanta was overweight, she was looking strong.
When it was time to release them, the two females met in the middle. Bekkies went straight for the ear hold, but Jamanta didn’t seem very interested. She would give some holds, but then show no further interest. Due to the drying process, Bekkies was dehydrated and kept getting mini hot spots. However, she showed us her box experience by rolling on her back and going for Jamanta’s throat. I called for a turn on Jamanta, which was granted. I was looking for an exit strategy since Bekkies was constantly getting into hotspots. The moment came, at 35 minutes, and the dogs were taken to the corner. Bekkies wasn’t making any noise, nor fighting with me in the corner, but I trusted Smalltimes. Jamanta was counted out, she didn’t move a single muscle fiber in her body and Bekkies made a flying courtesy scratch.

As usual we came as the underdog, due to the performance from the last show, there was a lot of shit talking and claiming that she only won the last show because the other dog didn’t feel any pressure…This time they said to have the right tool to disarm us, they couldn’t have been more wrong. Bekkies was in the right weight, but Roxy was overweight. The strategy was the same, to bring a strong, heavy-mouthed dog to finish things quickly. The dogs met in the middle. This time, Bekkies wasn’t dehydrated and gave it her all. Roxy went on the offensive, trying to bite Bekkies’ shoulders, but she was just biting air. Bekkies danced like MC Hammer hit song “Can’t Touch This”. She defended herself with the ear holds and, when she had the chance, went for the throat before returning to defend by the ear. By the 25-minute mark, Bekkie had got a mini hotspot, making it look like Roxy might have a chance.

The other handler said, ‘The first corn is for the pigeons’, but it was all in vain because she literally got back up and pushed Roxy into the corner, getting a proper hold of her neck and back. Roxy’s throat was swelling and she was getting slower and slower, fighting from the floor. By the 45-minute mark, it was clear that things weren’t looking good for the other camp. Roxy’s neck was swelling up like a frog performing a mating calling. Roxy was picked up, in one hour, and performed a game scratch, I was impressed, I thought that she wouldn’t leave her corner. A proper game dog in all her rights, she died a few hours later the show due to the damage.

This time we struggled with weight, she was dropping to much weight and we increased the feed, the weight stabilized at 15,5 kgs her proper weight. The conditioning process was perfect, she was working way better than expected and extremely focused. We had to pay the forfeit, luckily the show went on. Emy started strongly, setting the rhythm in the first 25 minutes. She had a similar style to Bekkies, and I saw her become frustrated and growl for the first time. She was trying to adjust to her opponent because she had only had one and a half cutters since she started her career with us. A turn was called on Bekkies, which I disagreed with, but it was granted. Since she couldn’t get on her good side, she dropped onto her back and grabbed Emy’s throat. Slowly, the trick started to show its effect.

Once the tide had turned, the growling of frustration stopped and she went on the offensive, ready to start punishing and showing why she was feared. This time, she decided to corner Emy, going for her shoulders and throat and alternating between the two spots. There was a time when they exchanged mouth holds; Emy was doing everything she could to keep her at bay. When the dogs were out of hold, we handled them. Bekkies, as always, was quiet, but kept her head turned, looking across the square. She literally flew to the other corner, where she met her opponent and continued to punish her.

By this time, Emy was showing some bad signs, and it was clear that she was doubting herself. There was a discussion because I supposedly didn’t manage to handle my dog in an out-of-holds situation. By the 50-minute mark, the moment finally came, as expected, Emy did not leave her corner, and Bekkies was declared the champion in a three-card international show. On the same night Soninha 38 also became a 1xw BIS. I would like to thank my conditioning partner, for all of the effort and making the dream come true!!
